Namibia's CBNRM programme aims to recreate a common property resource management system for wildlife and tourism related aspects of land management. So far 14 communal area conservancies have been gazetted while more than 30 are in the process of establishment. The site includes links to environmental information, maps and data, legislation and policy information (including international conventions). Details are also given of a proposed National Core set of Environmental Indicators which are being developed and prioritised.

Nature Namibia Foundation promotes sustainable development, the conservation of biological diversity and natural ecosystems, and the wise and ethical use of natural resources for the benefit of all Namibians, both present and future. The foundation had over 50 projects, including community-based natural resource management, protection of endangered species, the national biodiversity programme, reviewing environmental policies and combating desertification.

This paper, written by Brian Jones in 1998, examines the development and implementation of a policy to promote the sustainable management of wildlife and wild habitats by rural communities occupying communal land in Namibia. The policy on community-based natural resource management resulted in legislation, which enables local communities to form wildlife and tourism management institutions called "conservancies". The paper examines the potential for conservancies to serve as institutional models for the management of other resources and argues that further policy development needs to focus on strengthening the links between conservancies and other proposed community-based natural resource management institutions. The paper also concludes that secure and exclusive group land tenure is another important area of policy focus crucial for the success of CBNRM in Namibia.

The programme coordinates, supports, guides and stimulates Namibian national activities relating to biodiversity conservation and the sustainable use of biological resources.

NAPCOD aims to combat the process of desertification by promoting the sustainable and equitable development of natural resources suited to Namibia's variable environment.

Description of a Ministry of Environment and Tourism project that aimed to enhance rural livelihoods in northern Namibia by promoting planning for sustainable environmental management through information-based and participatory processes in order that the natural resources in this area should be used more sustainably.

WILD provides support to CBNRM in Namibia by conducting applied, social, economic and ecological research to examine the impacts of integrating wildlife and other natural resource based livelihoods (though improved natural resource management and tourism). Participatory research and facilitation will contribute to community decision making for land use planning, natural resource management and for prioritisation and integrating livelihood diversification options.
