The Eastern African DataBase and Atlas Project (EAF/14) was initiated in 1993 by UNEP to improve the knowledge and management of coastal resources of Eastern Africa. The main components are the producing maps and atlases and developing a GIS based database of the coastal zone of Eastern Africa, including Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, Comoros and Seychelles.
The database covers the land-sea interaction area, approximately 50km of the land and 50km of the ocean. You can download summaries of the atlases and lists of the ArcView based GIS layers available, and contact the project teams for more detailed data.

FARM (Food & Agricultural Research Management) works to help poor rural communities produce more food so they do not have to depend on
handouts of aid. Working alongside local farmers, FARM-Africa identifies the problems limiting agricultural production and finds appropriate solutions, such as control of crop pests, treatment of livestock diseases, or soil and water conservation. Its projects include establishing rural drug shops to improve animal healthcare, experimenting with different types of crops, teaching rudimentary veterinary skills and irrigating crops from seasonal river diversions.

Integrated conservation and rural development project on Mt Elgon, Kenya. The project is implemented by the Kenya Wildlife Service and the Forest Department, with technical and managerial support being provided by the East African Regional Office of IUCN - The World Conservation Union. Activities include: collaborative natural resources management community capacity building, rural livelihood improvement, tourism and policy development.

The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust works to conserve elephants and rhinos, focusing on Tsavo National Park. The Trust raises orphaned elephants and rhinos, and campaigns against poaching and for the enforcement of the CITES ivory trade ban.
